Calais Community Hospital
Calais Community Hospital (CCH) is a 25-bed critical access hospital in Calais, Maine, caring for the people of northeastern Washington County with acute care, swing beds and a 24-hour, physician-staffed emergency department. The hospital traces its roots to 1917, moved into its current building in 2006, and since 2021 has been a division of Down East Community Hospital in Machias.
Our nine-room Level III Emergency Department sees 800–900 patients a month. Alongside it, CCH provides medical-surgical inpatient care, general and orthopedic surgery (including robotic-assisted knee replacement), interventional pain management, diagnostic imaging, laboratory, rehabilitation, respiratory care and cardiac rehabilitation. Primary care is offered at Calais Family Medicine and Baileyville Medical Center, along with podiatry in Calais.
Our corner of rural Down East Maine is a true hidden gem: rocky coastline and beaches, scenic hikes, fresh seafood, farmers markets, festivals and skiing, with a cost of living well below a larger city. In a close-knit community, the people who choose to provide care here quickly come to know their patients and colleagues like family.
