Position Overview
St. Charles Health System is seeking a fellowship-trained Surgical Oncologist to join the St. Charles Cancer Center, working out of our hospitals and clinics in Bend and Redmond, Oregon. This role provides surgery for solid tumors, including soft tissue, melanoma, endocrine and breast cancers (hepatobiliary excluded).
You will be responsible for the medical, surgical and postoperative management of your patients, working in collaboration with other medical specialties. St. Charles Cancer Institute brings together leading research, technology and personalized guidance, and its hospital-based, comprehensive Cancer Centers are accredited by the Commission on Cancer and the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers.
Work Schedule & Call Expectations
- 40 hours per week, blending hospital rounding, procedure block time, scheduled clinic visits and interdisciplinary clinic
- Attendance at multidisciplinary General and Breast Tumor Conferences
- Participation in after-hours practice call for your own patients
- Work locations: Bend and Redmond hospitals and clinics
Key Responsibilities
- Examine, diagnose and provide surgical care for patients with solid tumors
- Perform patient examinations and record pertinent history and findings
- Order and interpret laboratory, imaging and other diagnostic studies to determine diagnosis and treatment plan
- Prescribe medications and perform medical and surgical procedures in line with state law and practice guidelines
- Educate patients and families on treatments, illness prevention and healing, and connect them with community resources
- Triage patient telephone calls and provide consultation as needed
- Document all care in the electronic medical record for timely, accurate billing
- Participate in SCHS physician meetings and help shape system and practice policy
Qualifications
Education
- Graduate of an accredited medical school
- Completion of an accredited residency in General Surgery
- Completion of a Surgical Oncology fellowship
Licensure & Certification
- Oregon license as MD/DO
- Board certified in General Surgery with added certification in Surgical Oncology
- Unrestricted DEA number
- Unrestricted ability to participate in Medicare, Medicaid and other governmental health care programs
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet SCHS driving requirements
- Active privileges at St. Charles Health System hospitals, maintained with current CME
