Position Overview
St. Charles Bend is seeking an experienced Neonatal Advanced Practice Provider (Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to provide per diem coverage in a Level III NICU in Bend, Oregon. This is an independent contractor (1099) position.
The provider delivers comprehensive neonatal care, including delivery attendance, newborn resuscitation, NICU management, stabilization and transport support for critically ill neonates. It is an ideal fit for an experienced neonatal provider seeking flexible, independent-contractor work in a collaborative, high-acuity NICU environment.
Compensation
- Competitive per diem 1099 contractor rate

Work Schedule & Call Expectations
- Per diem coverage based on department needs
- Day, night, weekend and holiday shifts available
- 12-hour and 24-hour shifts
- No formal call requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Attend high-risk deliveries and provide neonatal resuscitation
- Perform comprehensive assessments, admissions and daily management of NICU patients
- Develop and implement treatment plans with neonatologists and the multidisciplinary team
- Prescribe medications, respiratory therapies and other treatments within scope of practice
- Perform neonatal procedures, including:
- Endotracheal intubation
- Umbilical venous and arterial catheter placement
- PICC placement and management
- Arterial line placement
- Lumbar puncture
- Chest tube insertion and thoracentesis
- Urinary catheterization and other neonatal procedures
- Participate in neonatal transports as needed
- Communicate effectively with families and provide family-centered care
- Complete timely, accurate medical documentation and billing
Qualifications
Education
- Graduate of an accredited Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
Licensure & Certification
- Current, unrestricted Oregon NP or PA license (or ability to obtain)
- NCC, AANP, AANC, AMCB or NCCPA certification, as applicable
- Current DEA registration
- Current BLS certification (ACLS if required by privileges)
Experience
- Minimum of two years practicing in a Level III or higher NICU
- Experience with electronic medical records
- Preferred: neonatal transport experience
- Preferred: experience with quality improvement, education and clinical leadership activities
- Preferred: NRP instructor or advanced neonatal education experience
