Position Overview
St. Charles Health System is seeking an Acute Care and Trauma Surgeon to join St. Charles Trauma & Acute Care Surgical Services in Bend, Oregon. The surgeon provides medical and surgical treatment and follow-up for patients with severe and life-threatening traumatic injuries, critical illness or emergency general surgery conditions, working with providers in other specialties to stabilize and treat patients.
You will join a team of surgeons board certified in surgical critical care, with varying levels of experience, alongside physician assistants and nurse practitioners. Surgeons take an active part in quality improvement projects and community outreach education, in line with Oregon State Trauma program requirements.
Work Schedule & Call Expectations
- Full-time commitment of 156 shifts per year, in the hospital and in clinic
- Day shifts in the roles of Trauma Surgeon, Surgical ICU and Emergency General Surgeon
- Night shifts cover Trauma and ICU or emergency general surgery
- Work location: St. Charles Bend and the Trauma & Acute Care Surgery Clinic
Key Responsibilities
- Examine, diagnose and surgically treat critically injured patients and patients with emergency general surgery conditions
- Perform patient examinations and record pertinent history and findings
- Order and interpret laboratory, imaging and other diagnostic studies to determine diagnosis and treatment plan
- Prescribe medications and perform medical and surgical procedures in line with state law and practice guidelines
- Educate patients and families on treatment, illness and injury prevention, and healing
- Participate in quality and performance improvement activities
- Take part in administrative activities of the trauma service as required by Oregon statutes
- Complete billing and coding documentation on time and participate in provider meetings and policy formation
Qualifications
Education
- Graduate of an accredited medical school
- Completion of an accredited residency in General Surgery
- Preferred: fellowship training and board certification in Surgical Critical Care
Licensure & Certification
- Current license as MD/DO; current unrestricted Oregon medical license preferred
- Board certified or eligible in General Surgery (board certification required within seven years of completing residency or fellowship)
- Current BLS, ACLS and ATLS certification
- Unrestricted federal DEA number
- Unrestricted ability to participate in Medicare, Medicaid and other governmental health care programs
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet SCHS driving requirements
- Maintain CME and certifications per trauma center and state requirements
Experience
- Experience using EMR software (Epic preferred)
- Proven ability to collaborate and build consensus among health care professionals and agencies in a team environment
