Position Overview
St. Charles Health System is seeking a Non-Operative Sports Medicine Physician to join the Orthopedic, Neurosurgery & Physiatry Service Line. The role provides medical and procedural care (injection, splinting, bracing), concussion care and postoperative management for patients with musculoskeletal injuries, working primarily in the Bend and Redmond clinics with some presence in outreach clinics.
The service line includes approximately 60 providers spanning the full spectrum of neuromusculoskeletal care across inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory surgery center and clinic settings. You will collaborate extensively with a robust sports medicine program designed to meet the growing needs of the Central Oregon community, including coverage of community athletic events.
Work Schedule & Call Expectations
- Roughly 32 patient-facing hours per week at 1.0 FTE, prorated for part-time FTE
- Blend of scheduled clinic visits, NowCare urgent visits and athletic event coverage
- No call expectation
- Primary clinic locations in Bend and Redmond, with some work in outreach clinics
Key Responsibilities
- Examine, diagnose and treat a broad scope of musculoskeletal conditions and concussions, from conservative care to acute care
- Perform injections, splinting and bracing, and emergency procedures in clinic as needed
- Order and interpret laboratory, imaging and other diagnostic studies, which may include reading your own x-rays
- Cover community athletic events such as high school football, basketball and training room
- Provide postoperative management of musculoskeletal patients in collaboration with other specialties
- Educate patients and families on treatments, illness prevention and healing
- Document all care in the EMR for timely, accurate billing
- Participate in SCMG physician meetings and help shape practice policy
Qualifications
Education
- Graduate of an accredited medical school
- Completion of an accredited residency in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine or Emergency Medicine
- Completion of an additional 12 months of full-time Sports Medicine fellowship training
Licensure & Certification
- Oregon license as MD/DO
- Board certified or eligible in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine or Emergency Medicine
- Must have or be eligible for the CAQ in Sports Medicine
- Board certification required within seven years of completing residency or fellowship
- Unrestricted DEA number
- Unrestricted ability to participate in Medicare, Medicaid and other governmental health care programs
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet SCHS driving requirements
Experience
- Preferred: experience with concussion management and athletic team coverage
