Position Overview
St. Charles Health System is seeking a Physician Hospitalist (day/swing shift) to join the SCMG Hospitalist Program, with primary work locations at St. Charles Bend and St. Charles Redmond hospitals in Oregon. You will serve as the attending of record for adult inpatients (age 18 and older) presenting with primary internal medicine pathology, as part of a program that provides coverage 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Hospitalists admit patients from the Emergency Department, provide consults for other specialties including the ED, and directly admit from outside facilities. The role offers a choice between a 7-day rotation or flex scheduling, evenly distributed back-up call, and opportunities to collaborate in the education of residents and medical students.
Work Schedule & Call Expectations
- Shifts are generally 10–11 hours in duration
- Minimum of 166 shifts per year
- Option of a 7-day rotation schedule or flex scheduling
- Back-up call required, evenly distributed throughout the year among all daytime Hospitalists
- Primary practice locations:
- St. Charles Bend Hospital – 2500 NE Neff Rd, Bend, OR
- St. Charles Redmond Hospital – 1253 NW Canal Boulevard, Redmond, OR
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 24-hour coverage of all Medicine patients on the Bend campus in admitting and consultative roles, under existing Co-Management Agreements
- Provide 24-hour coverage of all Medicine and Critical Care (if privileged) patients at the Redmond campus in admitting and consultative roles
- Perform procedures such as central lines and arterial lines, consistent with privileges, for Redmond ICU coverage
- Consult on inpatient psychiatric patients in PES or Sageview when requested, and on medically complex patients in Inpatient Rehabilitation
- Round with the care team, take histories, perform exams, review outside records, and complete full H&Ps
- Write H&Ps, consults, progress notes, and discharge summaries; keep the problem list and Care Coordination Note current
- Place orders, consult specialists, and respond to questions from RN/RT and other staff
- Facilitate family meetings and goals-of-care discussions and educate patients and families on diagnoses and treatment plans
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and a team-based care model
- Collaborate in the education of residents and medical students
- Share equitably in the workload among hospitalists on shift; Rapid Response supervision may occasionally be requested
Qualifications
Education
- Graduation from an accredited medical school
- Successful completion of an accredited residency in the physician’s chosen specialty
Licensure & Certification
- Current MD or DO license; Oregon license preferred
- Board certified or board eligible in the chosen specialty; board certification required within seven years of completing residency or fellowship
- Unrestricted Federal DEA number; DEA registered in Oregon preferred
- Unrestricted ability to participate in Medicare, Medicaid, and other government health care programs
- Current ACLS
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet SCHS driving requirements
Experience
- Experience providing care in hospital practice environments (required)
- Experience using EMR software (required)
- Experience working in a team environment and building consensus among health care professionals (required)
- Prior process improvement and standard work development experience preferred

About the Program
The SCMG Hospitalist Program provides diagnosis, prevention, and treatment for hospitalized patients referred from community primary care physicians, emergency physicians, and other physicians in the hospital.
