Position Overview
St. Charles Health System is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Neurosurgeon to join the Orthopedics, Neurosurgery and Physiatry Service Line in Bend, Oregon. You will provide medical, surgical, and postoperative management of patients, working primarily at the Bend hospital, Cascade SurgiCenter, and Bend Surgery Center performing elective and acute surgeries.
Surgeons also see patients in clinic and work collaboratively with APPs and other medical specialties, with the physician determining the appropriate site of care for each patient. The service line includes approximately 60 providers and collaborates closely with the Bend hospital-based acute surgery and trauma team to develop a robust trauma program designed to meet the growing needs of the Central Oregon community.
Work Schedule & Call Expectations
- Roughly 32 patient-facing hours per week at 1.0 FTE, prorated to FTE
- A blend of hospital rounding, procedure block time, and scheduled clinic visits, including charting
- Participation in a call rotation shared equally by the participating surgeons
- Primary clinic work location in Bend, with possible work in outreach clinics
Key Responsibilities
- Examine, diagnose, and treat a broad scope of neurosurgical conditions, from conservative care to surgical intervention
- Perform elective and acute surgeries, including emergency procedures when on call
- Obtain and record histories and examination findings; order and interpret laboratory, imaging, and other diagnostic studies
- Integrate clinical data to determine diagnosis and therapeutic plan; prescribe and administer medications
- Instruct and educate patients and families on medications, treatments, illness prevention, and healing
- Collaborate with APPs and other medical specialties in the assessment and management of patients
- Triage patient telephone calls and provide consultation as needed
- Document all care in the EMR to support timely and accurate billing
- Participate in SCMG physician meetings and help shape policy for SCMG and the practice
Qualifications
Education
- Graduation from an accredited medical school
- Successful completion of an accredited residency in Neurosurgery
Licensure & Certification
- Oregon MD/DO license
- Board certified or board eligible in Neurosurgery; board certification required within seven years of completing residency or fellowship
- Current ATLS certification
- Unrestricted DEA number
- Unrestricted ability to participate in Medicare, Medicaid, and other government health care programs
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet SCHS driving requirements
Experience
- Experience providing neurosurgical care in hospital and outpatient practice environments preferred

Its approximately 60 providers represent the full spectrum of neuromusculoskeletal care across inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory surgery center, and clinic settings.
