Young Hearts of Yuma
Young Hearts of Yuma is an independent cardiology and vascular practice in Yuma, Arizona, providing comprehensive, minimally invasive heart, vascular and vein care for the Yuma community. The practice is led by interventional cardiologist Mark Awar, MD, who brings 20 years of experience in cardiovascular medicine and a special interest in complex coronary, limb and aortic interventions that minimize the need for open surgery — guided by his belief that every patient should be given the chance for a minimally invasive repair, if feasible.
Dr. Awar earned his medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland, completed his internal medicine residency at Indiana University, and completed his general and interventional cardiology fellowships at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, followed by further training in structural heart disease and complex venous interventions.
Young Hearts of Yuma treats coronary artery disease, heart failure, arrhythmias, hypertensive and valvular heart disease, aortic disease, peripheral arterial disease and venous disease. Services range from in-office diagnostics — echocardiography, stress testing, Holter monitoring and vascular ultrasound — to device implantation (loop recorders, pacemakers and defibrillators), coronary angiography, carotid stenting, and specialty structural and vascular procedures including TAVR, EVAR and left atrial appendage closure. The practice's vein clinic, established in 2014 and the most comprehensive in Yuma, treats everything from spider and varicose veins to complex venous insufficiency and ulceration with thermal ablation, vein closure, microphlebectomy and ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy.
Yuma sits on the Colorado River near the California and Mexico borders and is known as one of the sunniest cities in the country, offering year-round outdoor recreation, desert landscapes and a welcoming, close-knit community.
