Position Purpose
The Oncology Hospitalist provides comprehensive, inpatient-focused medical care for patients with cancer, integrating hospitalist practices with oncology expertise. This role manages acute and chronic complications of malignancy, coordinates complex inpatient care, and collaborates with oncology subspecialists, infusion services, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality, patient-centered outcomes. The physician serves as the primary attending provider for oncology inpatients, with responsibility for diagnosis, treatment, stabilization, and care coordination across the continuum.
Nature and Scope
The Oncology Hospitalist provides primary inpatient management for patients with cancer, with a focus on acute medical issues, treatment-related complications, and care coordination. Medical Oncologists function as consultants for cancer-specific diagnosis, treatment planning, and therapeutic decision making. This co-management model is designed to improve timeliness of care, inpatient throughput, and continuity across the oncology care continuum.
The incumbent evaluates, diagnoses, and treats hospitalized patients with oncologic conditions, including solid tumors and hematologic malignancies. This role combines the rapid decision-making and systems-based practice of hospital medicine with specialized oncology management, including chemotherapy-related toxicities, immunotherapy complications, and end-of-life care.
The physician participates in hospital governance, quality improvement, and clinical program development, particularly in rural or resource-limited environments where adaptability and collaboration are essential. Ongoing education, adherence to regulatory standards, and participation in interdisciplinary communication are required.

Education:
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to perform job duties safely and effectively. Board Eligible/Certified in Internal Medicine. Oncology or Hematology-Oncology training preferred or significant oncology experience.
Experience:
Experience in hospital medicine required. Experience managing oncology patients in inpatient or consult setting preferred.
License(s):
Must possess and maintain a current and valid State of Nevada Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic (DO) medicine license. Controlled substance License to Prescribe issued by the State of Nevada and Controlled Substance Registration Certificate issued by the DEA, required.
Certification(s):
Board Eligible or Board Certified in Family Medicine through the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) or through the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians (AOA) or Board Eligible or Board Certified in Internal Medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or through the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine (AOA). If Provider is not Board Eligible at time of hire, Certification must be obtained within two (2) years of employment.
Basic Life Support (BLS) AND Advanced Certification Life Support (ACLS) required. Prefer American Heart Association (AHA) approved certification but will accept online certification from American Red Cross Training Services, Advanced Medical Certification, or ACLS Certification Institute.
Computer / Typing:
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
