Position Overview
St. Charles Health System is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider – Orthopedics (Foot and Ankle) to join St. Charles Orthopedics & Neurosurgery in Bend, Oregon. In this role, you will work in a supporting role alongside a team of Orthopedic Surgeons in the clinic, the hospital, and the operating rooms of both the hospital and ambulatory surgery centers.
The position offers a varied blend of surgical assist, hospital rounding, admissions and discharges, and scheduled and walk-in clinic visits. You will be part of the Orthopedic, Neurosurgery & Physiatry Service Line, which works closely with the Bend hospital-based acute surgery and trauma team to build a robust trauma program designed to meet the growing needs of the Central Oregon community.
Work Schedule & Call Expectations
- Minimum of 40 hours per week, including a minimum of 36 hours of patient contact time
- Regular, exempt, first-shift position
- Participation in a call rotation, including triage of patient calls from the after-hours answering service
Key Responsibilities
- Assist physicians with the range of orthopedic surgeries, including sports, hand, foot & ankle, trauma, and total joint replacement
- Perform pre-operative and post-operative care in clinic
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as joint aspirations and injections
- Round on orthopedic patients in the hospital as needed, including admissions and discharges
- Exercise judgment on conditions requiring consultation, referral, or evaluation by an orthopedic surgeon or other health care professionals
- Educate, counsel, and support patients and families on current health problems, health maintenance, and prevention
- Document all patient care in the EMR to support timely and accurate billing
- Participate in team meetings and help develop policy and clinical practice guidelines
Qualifications
Education
- Successful completion of an approved Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program, with certification appropriate to license
- Ongoing CME as required to maintain licensure and board certification
Licensure & Certification
- Unrestricted Oregon PA and/or NP license
- PA: NCCPA certification and ability to establish and maintain a Collaborative Practice Agreement with a Supervising Physician through OMB
- NP: certification through AANC, NCC or AANP, AMCB
- Unrestricted Federal DEA registered in Oregon
- Unrestricted ability to participate in Medicare, Medicaid, and other government health care programs
- Current BLS certification
- Preferred: Orthopedic Physician Assistant Certification through the National Board for Certification of Orthopedic Physician Assistants
Experience
- Experience using EMR software (required); Epic experience preferred
- Experience working in a team environment and building consensus among health care professionals (required)
- Prior experience with orthopedic surgery and/or trauma surgery preferred

About the Practice
The Orthopedic, Neurosurgery & Physiatry Service Line at St. Charles Health System provides ambulatory, procedural, and inpatient care across the health system and within ambulatory surgery centers. The service line includes approximately 60 providers representing the full spectrum of neuromusculoskeletal care across inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory surgery center, and clinic settings.
